Cindy (Vuagniaux) Kuschel, the second of fourteen children, was born and raised in Edwardsville, Illinois; an area she is still happy to call home. She received her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing from St. Louis University and spent twenty years working in the health care field as a registered nurse. At age twenty-five, she received her first pet: a Cocker Spaniel puppy named Buffy Marie.
And little Buffy was the beginning of the new Cindy.
Cindy soon realized how very wonderful pets are and found herself devoting more and more of her time and her life to the care of cats and dogs. She volunteered for several years with the Highland Animal Shelter and for ten years with the Metro East Humane Society. And she continues to be the Labrador Retriever Rescue representative for the Purebred Dog Rescue of St. Louis; a role she first took up in 1986.
In November of 1994, Cindy made her devotion to pets a full time commitment. She gave up her nursing career and purchased the Watamug Boarding Kennel, which we now know as Cindy's Critter Camp. Her goals at the kennel are simple enough: to provide a clean, safe, humane and friendly atmosphere in which to take care of dogs and cats. And while there have been ups and downs, as there are with any business, Cindy does not mind at all. This is because Cindy loves what she does. Indeed, she feels truly blessed. Not only is she able to "pay the bills" by providing excellent boarding, grooming and training services, but, more importantly, the Critter Camp allows Cindy and her staff to help people with their pet training problems and facilitate the rescue and adoption of homeless pets. This is Cindy's Passion!
Cindy has one daughter who is a pre-med student at a university in Chicago and, not surprisingly, has several dogs and cats; we have lost count on how many!!! She enjoys working at her business, reading, boating, exercising her mind and body, and spending time with people and pets that are her friends and family.

Cindy's Critter Camp is happy to have on site training, provided by John Dahman of Animal Specialties. John is a Certified Master Dog Trainer, and is a master graduate of The Tom Rose School of Professional Dog Training. He has extensive experience filling various working canine rolls, including professional dogs. His "kids" have been sent out into the world to hunt, assist the police, detect narcotics, act as guard dogs, perform in "wing and shot" and agility demonstration competitions, and, most rewardingly, help the disabled. He has an outstanding reputation, and is considered by many of his peers to be the premier dog trainer. He will be happy to work with you and your canine buddy, either at the Critter Camp and/or within your home, to meet your personal training needs.
John also specializes in Remote Electronic Training. He will be happy to take the time to set you and your dog up with a combination of hardware and lessons that will keep your dog safe and well mannered.
